Here are some of the ways that stress plays itself out.

General Stress

Normal, routine everyday stress is predictable and acceptable. Some of it is negative, some of it is positive, but it’s all manageable. People deal with it, recover from it, and stay healthy and actually grow from it. However, some people do not deal with general stress which of course allows it to accumulate.

Cumulative Stress

This type of stress results from various stress factors that build upon each other to create major stress levels. It is not unusual but it is destructive. Sometimes called “burnout”, long periods of exposure causes toxic or destructive levels of stress resulting in threats to mental, emotional and physical health.

Typical events such as heavy workloads, poor communications, frustrations with others and trying to manage when you feel powerless, pile up until you just can’t cope anymore.

Perception

This stress response is activated by your perception of events. The things you believe are causing you stress can be real or imagined. Your ability to manage how you interpret events is a key to resolving this one. A Greek philosopher once pondered “We are disturbed not by events, but by the views that we take of them.”

If you’d like to discuss how I can help you, contact me today and arrange a discovery session.
